1. Issuance Price of Litecoin

Litecoin was initially issued on October 7, 2011, at a price of $4.30 per LTC.

2. Total Issuance of Litecoin

The total issuance of Litecoin is capped at 84 million LTC. As of the time of writing, approximately 73.2 million LTC have been mined, leaving around 10.8 million LTC yet to be issued.

3. Distribution of Litecoin

Initial distribution of Litecoin included:

  • 150,000 LTC reserved for the Litecoin Foundation
  • 150,000 LTC for the development team
  • 750,000 LTC for mining rewards
  • 50,000 LTC for marketing and promotion
4. Mining Litecoin

Litecoin is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency, meaning that new LTC is created through the process of mining. Blocks of transactions are added to the blockchain by miners who successfully solve complex mathematical puzzles. The block reward for mining a block of LTC is currently 12.5 LTC.

5. Block Halving

Like Bitcoin, Litecoin experiences block halving events approximately every 4 years. The block halving reduces the block reward by half, which slows down the issuance of new LTC. The most recent block halving for Litecoin occurred in August 2019, reducing the block reward from 25 LTC to 12.5 LTC.

6. Estimated Issuance Completion

Based on the current issuance rate, it is estimated that all 84 million LTC will be issued by around the year 2042. However, the issuance rate may vary depending on factors such as mining difficulty and block halving events.
