What is the Issuance and Circulation of Reserve Rights (RSR) Coins?
Reserve Rights (RSR) is a stablecoin that is designed to maintain a stable value against a basket of fiat currencies. The RSR token is issued by the Reserve Protocol Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Switzerland.
Issuance of RSR Coins
RSR is not a cryptocurrency in the traditional sense. Unlike Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies with a fixed supply and limited issuance, RSR is an elastic currency. This means that the supply of RSR can increase and decrease depending on market conditions. The issuance of new RSR coins is determined by an algorithm that tracks the demand for RSR and the value of the underlying basket of fiat currencies.
When the demand for RSR increases, the algorithm will issue new RSR tokens to meet the demand. Conversely, if the demand for RSR decreases, the algorithm will reduce the issuance of new RSR tokens. The goal of this elastic issuance mechanism is to maintain the value of RSR against the underlying fiat currencies.
Circulation of RSR Coins
RSR coins are circulated through various channels, including:
- Exchanges: RSR coins can be bought and sold on cryptocurrency exchanges. This is the primary channel for the circulation of RSR coins.
- Stablecoin swaps: RSR coins can be swapped for other stablecoins, such as USDT and USDC. This allows users to convert RSR coins into other currencies or assets.
- Payments: RSR coins can be used to make payments online and offline. There are a growing number of merchants that accept RSR coins as a form of payment.
- Staking: RSR coins can be staked to earn rewards. This rewards users for providing liquidity to the Reserve Protocol.
- Governance: RSR coins can be used to vote on governance decisions. This gives users a voice in how the Reserve Protocol is managed.
The circulation of RSR coins is essential for the stable value of the RSR token. The wider the circulation of RSR coins, the more stable the value of the token becomes.
How many RSR coins are in circulation?
As of August 2023, there are approximately 120 million RSR coins in circulation. The total supply of RSR is 100 billion coins; however, this is subject to change based on market conditions.
