What does Hash Rate mean in blockchain
The higher a blockchain's hashrate, the more computing power it has, making it more resistant to attacks.
Oct 22, 2024 at 12:41 am

What is Hash Rate?
Hashrate measures the computing power of a blockchain network. The higher a blockchain's hashrate, the more secure it is against attack. This is because attackers need to control more than 50% of a blockchain network's hashrate to succeed in an attack.
How is Hashrate Measured?
Hashrate is measured in hashes per second (H/s). A hash is a cryptographic function that takes an input of any size and produces an output of a fixed size. In the context of blockchain, hashing is used to secure transactions and blocks.
Why is Hashrate Important?
Hashrate is important for two main reasons:
- Security: A higher hashrate makes a blockchain network more secure against attack. This is because attackers need to control more than 50% of a blockchain network's hashrate to succeed in an attack.
- Confirmation speed: A higher hashrate also speeds up the confirmation of transactions. This is because miners can process more transactions per second with a higher hashrate.
What Factors Affect Hashrate?
Hashrate is affected by a number of factors, including:
- The number of miners on a network: The more miners there are on a network, the higher the hashrate will be.
- The computing power of each miner: The more powerful each miner's computer is, the higher the hashrate will be.
- The difficulty of the mining algorithm: The more difficult the mining algorithm is, the lower the hashrate will be.
What are the Current Top 5 Highest Hashrate Cryptocurrencies?
- Bitcoin (BTC) - 226.62 TH/s
- Ethereum (ETH) - 1,012.11 TH/s
- Litecoin (LTC) - 694.24 MH/s
- Dogecoin (DOGE) - 33.53 TH/s
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH) - 113.43 TH/s
