1. Nationality

BitMEX is a cryptocurrency exchange that was previously headquartered in Hong Kong.
After a series of legal and regulatory challenges, BitMEX moved its headquarters to Seychelles in 2021.
Seychelles is a small island nation in the Indian Ocean known for its favorable tax laws and lack of financial regulations.

2. Background

BitMEX was founded in 2014 by Arthur Hayes, Samuel Reed, and Ben Delo.
The exchange quickly gained popularity among experienced traders due to its advanced trading features, high leverage options, and lack of know-your-customer (KYC) requirements.
However, BitMEX has faced numerous legal and regulatory issues, including allegations of market manipulation and insider trading.

3. Regulatory Challenges

In 2020, the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) charged BitMEX with violating anti-money laundering laws and operating as an unregistered futures exchange.
