What is the issuance and circulation of TON coins?
In 2018, Telegram raised $1.7 billion through an ICO for their TON coins, which were initially distributed and later became fully functional upon the network's launch in May 2020.

Issuance and Circulation of TON Coins
1. Initial Coin Offering (ICO)
TON coins were initially distributed through an ICO in May 2018. The ICO raised a total of $1.7 billion in Ether (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC).
2. Token Distribution
The TON ecosystem consists of two tokens: TON Crystal (TON) and TON Diamond (TON). The initial distribution of TON coins was as follows:
- 40% allocated to public ICO participants
- 40% reserved for the TON Foundation
- 10% allocated to the development team
- 10% allocated to early investors
3. Pre-launch Circulation
After the ICO, TON coins were traded on secondary exchanges, such as Binance and HitBTC. However, the Telegram Open Network (TON) was not yet operational at this time.
4. Network Launch
The TON blockchain was officially launched on May 18, 2020. With the launch of the network, TON coins became fully functional.
5. Post-launch Circulation
After the network launch, TON coins became widely available on a variety of crypto exchanges. As of February 2023, there is a total supply of approximately 5.2 billion TON coins in circulation.
6. TON Distribution
The distribution of TON coins is as follows:
- 50% held by the Telegram team
- 25% allocated to the Telegram users
- 20% distributed to early investors and partners
- 5% reserved for the TON Foundation
7. Current Value and Trading
As of February 2023, the value of 1 TON coin is approximately $2.60. TON coins are traded on a wide range of crypto exchanges, including Binance, OKX, and FTX.
