What is the issuance and circulation of HBAR coins?

1. Initial Issuance
- February 2018: Genesis block issued, marking the creation of the Hedera network and the initial issuance of HBAR coins.
- 50 billion HBAR coins were minted initially, with a predetermined supply limit.
2. Official Token Sale
- March 2019: Hedera Hashgraph conducted a private token sale, where a portion of the HBAR coins were sold to accredited investors.
- Approximately 2.5 billion HBAR coins were sold, raising funds for the network's development and operations.
3. Distribution for Ecosystem Development
- A significant portion of the initial HBAR allocation was reserved for ecosystem development.
- These coins were distributed to grants and initiatives supporting the growth of Hedera-based projects and applications.
4. Consensus Service Fees
- HBAR coins are used to pay for consensus service fees on the Hedera network.
- Transactions, smart contract execution, and other network operations require HBAR payments to maintain network security and performance.
5. Treasury
- Hedera maintains a treasury that holds a reserve of HBAR coins.
- These reserves can be used for strategic initiatives, system upgrades, or other operational needs.
6. Circulation
- Currently (as of January 2023), approximately 12 billion HBAR coins are in circulation.
- This represents approximately 24% of the total HBAR supply.
- HBAR coins are held by a diverse range of stakeholders, including investors, developers, and enterprises using the Hedera network.
7. Inflation
- The Hedera network does not experience inflation.
- The total supply of HBAR coins is fixed and will not be increased over time.
