A man who thought he'd found an absolute bargain when he bought a second-hand cabinet online for just £25 was left utterly flabbergasted by what unfolded afterwards.

Andy Coates, who goes by @AndyWoodturner on X, couldn't believe his luck when he stumbled upon the cabinet, which he planned to restore and put back into use.

Taking to his platform to recount the bizarre incident, Andy initially informed his 8,975 followers about the gem he had discovered.

He posted: "I have to go out to get food...and although ill, I will put a mask on and go to collect this...how could I not for what they want for it!

"Nice cabinet to restore and put back into use...it's almost identical to my M&W...will need a new door making, but that's a simple job."

However, the story took a peculiar twist post-purchase.

Andy updated his fans, saying: "Well, that was an interesting hour. Went to collect it. Bloke says, 'I've had none other people contact me about it. But you were the first, so, here you go' .”

After handing over the £25 and heading off to Tesco for some shopping, Andy received an unexpected call from the seller.

The seller claimed that Andy 'wouldn't be able to pick up the cabinet' as it was already sold.

Confused, Andy corrected him, pointing out that he was the person who had just purchased the cabinet.

However, the drama didn't end there. After Andy put down the phone, it buzzed into life once more.

This time, the seller was on the other end with a surprise proposition, saying: "Well, the other man, the one I thought you were, asked for my number and called me. He said that the display box is a tool cabinet, and worth a lot of money. He said he'd have given me £125."

Andy, perplexed, quizzed the chap as to why he was sharing this.

The reply came: "Well, I was thinking, if you could bring it back, I'll give you your money back and five pounds for your petrol and time."

Andy was flabbergasted and retorted: "That's not going to happen, mate. You advertised it, I came and paid what you asked, and now I'm going home."

Undeterred, the fellow insisted, claiming the cabinet might be worth heaps when spruced up.

But Andy was unswayed, declaring: "And he's not wrong. But none of this concerns me. You sold it to me, and I bought it. It's now mine."

The dejected seller lamented his lost profit, stating: "But I could have got a lot more. I could have restored it and got even more."

To which Andy concluded firmly: "All 'true'... but not my concern. It's now mine. And will remain mine. And now I'm going to hang up and get off home."

Ending the conversation with a sardonic thrust, the man grumbled, "Thank you for nothing," while Andy closed with a crisp, "You're welcome."

This astonishing exchange took X by storm, gathering over 238,000 views and a slew of likes.

Many chimed in below the viral thread with their own tales of brazen sales encounters.

One individual recounted a cheeky encounter in an antique shop, saying: "In the antique shop I once had a silver christening set for sale. Customer said 'Can I have it for half price as I don't want it for a Christening? ' Quick as a flash my husband said 'I want a Ferrari but just to sit on the drive, do you think they'll sell me one for half price?'"

Another added their own experience with a holiday let visitor, saying: "One of our holiday let visitors said 'Have you got anyone booked for next week? ' No. 'Well can we stay on an extra week for free then, seeing as it's empty? ' Again, no."
