Shiba Inu (SHIB) lead developer, Shytoshi Kusama, has denied any involvement with the Ethereum-based cat-themed memecoin Shiro Neko (SHIRO).

The denial comes as the Shiba Inu ecosystem’s official X handle announced a partnership with Shiro Neko for a dual-staking initiative.

On November 28, 2024, the X handle announced “crypto’s fiercest collaboration” between its team and SHIRO.

Following the partnership announcement, several Shiba Inu community members expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the Shiro Neko team.

Widely-followed community figure Danoshi sarcastically told Kusama that the partnership “is not scammy.” However, Kusama quickly replied, stating that he has no involvement with Shiro Neko.

Back in October 2024, Shiba Inu’s community-driven scam channel, Susbarium, warned the community about Shiro Neko.

The project gained attention after burning 5.58 billion SHIB in one transaction and asking Shiba Inu if it could “be friends.” Susbarium then advised investors to be cautious and to conduct due diligence before investing in the token.
