Pakistan Issues Rs. 55 Commemorative Coin for Guru Nanak's 555th Anniversary

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has unveiled a special commemorative coin to mark the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the revered founder of Sikhism. This initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to honoring religious figures and fostering interfaith harmony.

The coin, valued at Rs. 55, was unveiled on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the SBP headquarters in Islamabad. It is part of a broader effort to highlight Pakistan’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

As Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in the region now part of Pakistan, the country holds special significance for the global Sikh community. Pakistan is home to several Sikh holy sites, including the revered Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, a symbol of interfaith harmony and spiritual connection.

The commemorative coin will be available for purchase starting November 22, 2024, at the exchange counters of all SBP Banking Services Corporation field offices.

Here are the key features of the commemorative coin:

**Obverse Design**

The obverse features a crescent moon and a five-pointed star, with the Urdu inscription "ISLAMI JAMHURIA PAKISTAN" along the edge. Below the crescent, the year "2024" is displayed, flanked by two upward-curving wheat sprigs. The coin's face value, "55," is prominently shown alongside "RUPIA" in Urdu script.

**Reverse Design**

The reverse showcases an artistic depiction of the Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji monument. The inscription “555th Birthday Celebrations” appears above, while “SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI" is engraved at the bottom. The years “1469–2024” encircle the design, symbolizing Guru Nanak's enduring legacy.

This release is a tribute to Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, which continue to inspire millions worldwide, and reaffirms Pakistan’s efforts to celebrate its diverse religious and cultural landscape.
