Organized Labor Urges VP Harris to Consider Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) as Running Mate
Jul 30, 2024 at 07:53 pm
This is an issue because Michigan is a crucial battleground state for Democrats, and strong union support could make Peters a strategic choice for Harris.
Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly considering several candidates for her running mate, including Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), according to Axios.
This report comes after blockchain researcher Collin Brown warned the community against Harris’ potential running mate selection, specifically highlighting Peters’ anti-crypto stance.
In his tweet, Brown urges followers to spread the word about Peters’ involvement in co-sponsoring the Digital Asset Money Laundering Act, which aims to expand anti-money laundering laws to cover digital asset transactions.
As previously reported by CNF, Trump's Masterplan includes starting BTC as a strategic reserve and pushing the US government to buy 1,000,000 bitcoins, which is 5% of the global Bitcoin supply, to combat national debt.
According to a Michigan Democratic Party official, Peters is interested in the nomination and is actively seeking support. Several House Democrats from Michigan also confirmed to Axios that Peters is being considered.
Peters gained national attention after leading the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee following his victory in a challenging Senate race in 2014.
When asked about the rumors, a senior advisor for Peters told Axios, “The Vice President has many strong options for her running mate, and we want to respect her process.”
Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) highlighted the strong support for someone who is pro-union among labor groups. “Gary fits that definition well,” Kildee added.
Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) mentioned hearing about Peters being considered and pointed to his labor connections and role as chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
The rumors of Peters being considered by Harris come as Michigan is considered a crucial battleground state for Democrats, and strong union support could make him a strategic choice for the Vice President.
