OpenAI Is in Talks to Integrate ChatGPT Into Samsung's Galaxy AI Suite

The deal would give OpenAI's AI tech a major presence in the mobile sector.

OpenAI Is in Talks to Integrate ChatGPT Into Samsung's Galaxy AI Suite

ChatGPT maker OpenAI is reportedly in talks with Samsung to integrate its AI tech into the Galaxy AI suite, which powers features on Samsung’s mobile devices.

Galaxy AI leverages large language models (LLMs) and other technologies developed by Samsung and provided by partners, including Google’s Gemini models.

Samsung, the world’s leading mobile device manufacturer, ships hundreds of millions of handsets annually. A potential deal with OpenAI could give its AI tech a massive presence in this huge market segment.

Samsung is currently on track to enable Galaxy AI on over 200 million devices this year, and it has already shipped the technology on millions of devices. At this growth trajectory, Galaxy AI-powered devices could reach one billion units within a few years.

In this context, OpenAI is reportedly exploring the possibility of having its ChatGPT tech power certain AI features from Samsung to enter this ecosystem, going head-to-head against Google’s Gemini-powered AI.

This potential partnership with Samsung would be similar to OpenAI’s relationship with Apple, where its tech is used to enhance the intelligent features of iPhones.

If an agreement is reached between Samsung and OpenAI, it would mark a significant shift in Samsung’s AI strategy.

Samsung has largely relied on its partnership with Google to provide AI capabilities, including those that will be featured in its upcoming AR smart glasses. A collaboration with OpenAI could lead to a redefined approach to AI on Samsung devices.

Earlier this year, Samsung was reportedly approached by OpenAI for a broader commercial partnership, with CEO Sam Altman visiting Samsung’s semiconductor plant to discuss potential collaborations on AI processors.

This partnership could be utilized by the two companies to integrate OpenAI’s technology into Samsung’s mobile devices, giving it access to a vast user base. This would position OpenAI in direct competition with Google in the AI and mobile space, having major implications for the future of AI-powered mobile technology.
