Litecoin (LTC) is celebrating a historic milestone: a 100% uptime record since its inception. Litecoin (LTC) Celebrates 100% Uptime Record Since Inception

Litecoin (LTC) has achieved a remarkable milestone by maintaining 100% uptime since its inception. The official X handle of the Litecoin foundation shared a screenshot of the "Litecoin uptime tracker," indicating that the Litecoin network has been fully functional 100% since its launch on October 23, 2011.

Throughout its existence, Litecoin has encountered technical challenges like any other cryptocurrency. However, these challenges have never resulted in network downtime. Litecoin's continuous operation is attributed to its robust architecture and the dedication of the Litecoin community in ensuring the network's stability.

Litecoin's journey began in 2011 when it was created by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee and MIT alumnus. Litecoin was designed to complement Bitcoin (BTC) by offering faster transaction times and lower fees. It was among the first cryptocurrencies to use the Scrypt algorithm in its proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism.

Litecoin's Scrypt algorithm is claimed to be more power-efficient and accessible than the SHA-256 algorithm used by Bitcoin. This setup is beneficial as it gives a lower barrier to entry, allowing more people to engage in cryptocurrency mining.

Moreover, Litecoin's genesis block was mined quickly, taking only 2 minutes and 43 seconds. This rapid genesis block mining time is said to have contributed to Litecoin's early success and popularity among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

Litecoin network advances

On December 26, the Litecoin network achieved another milestone when the hashrate crossed 2 petahashes per second (PH/s) at block height 2,816,339 and difficulty 59,401,111. This significant increase in hashrate is attributed to the efforts of Litecoin miners and the overall network activity during the period.

According to IntoTheBlock, in 2024, the average daily active addresses for Litecoin reached 401,000, marking an increase from 366,000 in 2023. Litecoin's daily active addresses reached a yearly high of 1.37 million on January 5.

Furthermore, IntoTheBlock reported that as of December 23, there were 8.25 million Litecoin addresses with a balance. Among these holders, 78% have held their LTC for over a year. This class of holders typically accumulates during bear markets and sells near high prices.

According to the IntoTheBlock analysis, Litecoin sees nearly 200,000 daily transactions, with most of this activity being payments. At the time of writing, Litecoin was down 5.13% in the last 24 hours to $99.38 and ranks the 25th largest cryptocurrency with a market valuation of $7.48 billion.
