Bangladesh beats Nepal to claim the last Super 8 place at the T20 World Cup, Pakistan bows out.

Bangladesh booked their place in the Super Eights of the Twenty20 cricket World Cup with a 21-run victory over Nepal on Sunday.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman took seven wickets between them to help Bangladesh restrict Nepal to 119-8 in reply to their total of 140-6 at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown, Saint Vincent.

The victory means Bangladesh will now play with India, Afghanistan and Australia in one Super Eight group while the United States, England, the West Indies and South Africa will play in the other. The Super Eight stage starts on Wednesday.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that was offering some assistance to the spinners.

However, Nepal’s bowlers were unable to make the most of the conditions and Bangladesh were able to post a competitive total thanks to some lusty hitting from Shakib (33) and Afif Hossain (28).

Nepal’s chase got off to a poor start as they lost opener Aasif Sheikh for a duck in the first over.

However, Paras Khadka (27) and Dipendra Singh Airee (22) put on a 47-run partnership for the second wicket to keep Nepal in the hunt.

But once Khadka was dismissed by Rahman in the ninth over, Nepal’s innings began to unravel.

Rahman struck again in his next over to remove Airee and then Shakib took two wickets in the 12th over to leave Nepal reeling on 80-5.

Although Rohit Paudel (21) and Kushal Malla (17) put on a 34-run partnership for the sixth wicket to give Nepal some hope, Rahman returned to the attack in the 17th over to dismiss both batsmen and end Nepal’s challenge.

Rahman finished with figures of 4-16 from his four overs while Shakib took 3-20 from his three overs.
