The Avalanche Foundation and digital payment firm Rain launched the Avalanche Card on Feb. 26, 2025, enabling users in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America to spend
Avalanche Foundation and digital payment firm Rain have launched the Avalanche Card, enabling users in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America to spend cryptocurrencies through Visa’s global network.
The card, which supports transactions using USDC, USDT, wAVAX, and AVAX, allows holders to spend digital assets online or in stores without needing to convert them to fiat currency. It leverages existing Visa infrastructure, eliminating the need for multi-step conversions across wallets or exchanges.
“Cryptocurrency is a tool for empowerment,” said John Wu, President of Ava Labs.
“With the Avalanche Card, we are making it easier than ever before for people in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America to use their digital assets to pay for the things they need and want.”
The card is designed for emerging markets with limited banking access, providing a rapid and secure method for cross-border transactions. Its launch aligns with Avalanche’s broader strategy to expand DeFi utility in everyday commerce.
Rain, Inc., a leading digital asset firm, developed the unique authorization infrastructure that powers the card, merging blockchain technology with traditional payment systems.
Visa’s vast network ensures seamless integration with millions of merchants around the world, where the card can be used for online and offline purchases.
Avalanche Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the development and growth of the Avalanche ecosystem, is focused on providing accessible tools to members of the Web3 community.
Avalanche, a decentralized open-source blockchain, is known for its speed and low-cost transactions, while Rain specializes in innovative digital asset solutions for seamless settlement and liquidity.
