AI Memecoins: Could They Rival or Outperform Shiba Inu (SHIB) in 2025?
Dec 13, 2024 at 04:00 pm
Most crypto speculators have jumped into memecoin hunting for the next 10x, 100x, or even a 1000x gem. What if AI memecoins could present such opportunities in 2025?
With the cryptocurrency market experiencing a downturn in 2023, many speculators are turning to memecoins in the hopes of discovering the next 10x, 100x, or even 1000x gem. While some may scoff at the idea of memecoins presenting such opportunities, others believe that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into this realm could indeed open up new possibilities.
One venture capital (VC) firm that is paying close attention to the intersection of crypto and AI is Syncracy Capital. In a recent statement, Daniel Cheung, a partner at the VC, highlighted the potential for the crypto AI narrative to drive a 10x multiple.
"Despite the recent run up, Crypto x AI is still just sitting at ~1% of total crypto market cap. Sector could easily 10x from here as we progress through the cycle with the leading AI Infra, AI Agent Platforms and AI Agents outperforming disproportionally."
As an example of the astronomical gains that memecoins are capable of, Shiba Inu [SHIB] stands out with a YTD (year-to-date) gain of 180%. So, which AI memecoins could potentially rival or even outshine SHIB?
A look at some of the top contenders reveals ai16z, ELIZA, and GOAT.
Solana-based AI16z [AI16Z] is a prime candidate for several reasons, not least of which is its high trading volume. The AI agent boasts a market cap of over $800M.
Moreover, if top cryptocurrency exchanges were to decide to list AI16Z, it could offer a massive upside to its holders. At press time, AI16Z was valued at $0.8, having seen an increase of 80% in the last 1 week.
Another potential AI meme coin to watch is Eliza [ELIZA], which is essentially an AI agent launchpad, also built on Solana. The project is notably backed by ai16z and is comparable to Base's Virtual Protocol [VIRTUAL].
Over the past week alone, ELIZA has surged by an impressive 140%, and since its launch, it has soared by 230%. However, it is worth noting that ELIZA's market cap is less than $100M, leading some to believe that it is massively undervalued in relation to its counterpart, VIRTUAL.
If ELIZA were to achieve a market cap that is on par with VIRTUAL, which is currently valued at around $700M, that would imply a 10x from its press time levels.
Finally, Goatseus Maximus [GOAT], the pioneer of the AI agent narrative, could also experience renewed interest in 2025.
GOAT made headlines after creating an AI agent that went on to become the first crypto millionaire, setting the stage for the entire segment.
Although GOAT has already secured listings on top cryptocurrency exchanges, its recent decline could offer a favorable risk-reward ratio if the anticipated AI hype and mindshare boost it.
It is important to note that while some of the AI agent tokens mentioned above do have utility, they are largely speculative and highly volatile. As such, as with any investment, conducting thorough research and ensuring that your risk tolerance aligns with the venture is paramount.
